The global short-form platform Shortime has launched 'Camouflage' and 'Keep Deluding Me'.
'Shortime's 'Camouflage' consists of over 30 one-minute short episodes that can be completed within an hour. Although it's not familiar to the general public yet, short-form content has long been a part of everyday life for the global MZ generation, especially in the U.S. and China. The response from global users towards Shortime, a Korean platform challenging the world market, is noteworthy. Since its global launch in September, Shortime has been consistently releasing content and has received positive reactions from overseas consumers, leading to weekly subscription purchases and paid contracts. In this atmosphere, the recently introduced short-form drama series 'Keep Deluding Me' and 'Camouflage' add provocative elements to familiar themes, proving that Shortime's growth is justified. First of all, these dramas have easily understandable subjects. 'Keep Deluding Me' tells the story of a web novel writer who secretly writes adult novels based on a favorite cafe owner's life and eventually falls in love, while 'Camouflage' uniquely intertwines the emotions of two long-time friends based on the symbolism and interpretations of tarot cards, lowering the entry barrier regardless of nationality.
Moreover, adapting to the smartphone viewing environment, young creators accustomed to shooting vertically collaborate with promising newcomers like Yim Chaehyun (FN Entertainment) and YuShin (Galaxy Corporation), finding a charming balance between general films and vertical content, as noted by viewers of both series.
Meanwhile, the rapid evolution of short-form content and the influx of creators are expected to intensify in the near future. The director of both series, Lee Wonhoi, expressed that “the impact of the commercial film industry, which has been suppressed for years, is affecting independent films and smaller film festivals, significantly reducing opportunities for feature film debuts, making it a much-needed oasis for young filmmakers looking to try new things.”
Additionally, established production companies are also joining in. Like Hidden Sequence, which produced MBC's 'Snow White Must Die - Black Out', large production companies and broadcasters' directors are already producing short-form content or exploring new possibilities in the market.
Short yet intense episodes, detailed subjects, and a fast and addictive format are expected to expand further when combined with Shortime's multilingual subtitle service.
